NHLBI researcher named 2012 AAAS Fellow

Keji Zhao, Ph.D., director of the NHLBI Systems Biology Center, has been named a 2012 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This honor is bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers in recognition of "meritorious efforts to advance science or its applications."

Dr. Zhao was selected for his distinguished contributions to epigenetics and chromatin research, including his development of advanced genome-wide mapping tools called ChIP-Seq and MNase-Seq.

"Dr. Zhao has been a pioneer in the field of whole-genome analyses of epigenetic modifications, and we are proud to see his work recognized in this way," said Robert Balaban, Ph.D., scientific director of the NHLBI Division of Intramural Research. "The tools developed by his team have helped countless researchers analyze the intricate methods of regulating gene expression in both normal development and disease."

The new AAAS Fellows will be recognized on Feb. 16, 2013, at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston.
